Rock n Roll - a revolutionary cure for jetlag…
It’s Sunday 5/14, 13:00 and the saga of our trip to France has almost ended! Yippee! After a series of plane connections, two subway connections (including a hectic moment where Lynn’s luggage got stuck in a gate), and a two hour train ride, we reached Flers. Lynn and I were both completely exhausted. Our final destination, still ahead of us, was the Rock n Roll cycle lodge run by Dee and Russell. Rock n Roll is an adventure holiday guest house which caters to all kinds of activities.
Seeing Dee waiting for us at the train station lifted our spirits tremendously. After a short drive to idyllic village of Pont d’Ouilly in Suise Normandy we completed our mammoth 48+ hour journey, arriving back at Les Relais des Amis (the place of friends). As with our prior visit in 2005, we felt very much at home right away and met the other guests - A journalist couple writing an article on Rock n Roll for Zest magazine, and a single guy from the North of England.
Anyway, onto the subject of the post - a new revolutionary cure for jet lag. After getting here, we built out the mountain bikes (Lynn needs a shorter stem and rides with funky “Frog” pedals) and headed out for what Russell called “a short 90 minute ride”. Three hours later we returned to the house after hauling ourselves up and down the Norman countryside covering 16 (25km) miles of trails. It was a first for me - I’m normally falling asleep at this point but got back from the ride completely energized. Lynn on the other hand almost fell asleep in her dinner
The best thing is that we feel that we’ve stolen back the day we lost due to travel. We still have two full days biking in front of us! Hurray for Rock n Roll!!
